Born 11 April 1931 in Sochani village, Jammu & Kashmir. Commissioned through the National Defence Academy / IMA Dehradun in December 1953, he served in the Punjab Regiment and the Jammu & Kashmir Rifles. Moved by the Sino-Indian conflict of 1962, he devoted his life to the study and writing of India's defence and military history.
